Silver for Alex Lauretano at World Championships in Chile
The Under 21 Water Ski World Championships concluded last Sunday
in San Bernardo, Chile. Athletes from more than 20 countries participated
in the five-day biennial event.
Alex Lauretano earned an Overall Silver Medal, finishing in Second
Place in the Overall competition, a cumulative compilation of the
scoring results in the Slalom, Tricks, and Jump events. Whitney
McClintock from Canada finished first with 2,829.50 points. Alex
finished second with 2,717.54 points and Marion Aynaud from France
finished third with 2,663.27 points. In the individual events, Alex
finished second in Jump, fourth in the Trick Skiing competition,
and fifth in Slalom.
In the Jump event, Alex recorded scores of 158.8 feet in the Preliminary
round and 157.8 feet in the finals. In the Trick Skiing competition,
Alex attained a score of 7230 points in the finals after scoring
7100 points in the preliminary round. In the Slalom event, Alex
rounded three and one-half buoys at 35 feet off of the 75-foot tow
line.
In this tournament, Alex represented the United States as an Independent
Skier. The United States Team Members with whom she traveled to
Chile earned the Overall Silver Medal in the competition. France
earned the Gold Medal and Canada won the Bronze Medal.

On the final 2007 Under 21 World Rankings List released yesterday,
Alex is second Overall, third in Jump, and sixth in Trick Skiing.
