Alex
Lauretano recently competed as a member of the U.S. Water Ski Team
at the 2006 Pan American Water Ski Championships in Acuaski Morelos,
Mexico. Alex won the gold medal in Women’s Jumping in helping
the U.S. Team win the Championship over Canada and Mexico, their
nearest competitors in the 7-team field.
The Pan American Water Ski Championships is a biennial event featuring
athletes and teams from North, Central, and South America. Overall,
123 skiers competed in the tournament this year.
In the Women’s Jump competition, Alex was in first place
after the preliminary round and jumped a career-best 155 feet to
win the finals and earn the gold medal for the U.S. Team. In the
overall competition – Slalom, Tricks, and Jump combined –
Alex won the silver medal.
Alex is now training with her College Team, Florida Southern College,
in preparation for the National Collegiate Water Ski Championship
Tournament that will be held in Sacramento, California during October.
