In her final tournament as a water skier in the Junior ranks, Alex
Lauretano went out in style. In the recently completed 64th annual
GOODE Water Ski National Championships presented by Speedo and held
in Bakersfield, California, Alex finished as National Champion in
the Jump and Trick events. Those placements earned her the prestigious
title of National Overall Champion for the Girls 3 Division. Nearly
800 competitors participated in the world’s largest 3-event
water ski tournament.

In the Jump event, Alex jumped 148 feet to outdistance her nearest
competitor by 16 feet, a significant margin in this competitive
event. In the Trick Skiing competition, Alex landed 5 flips to score
6,890 points and finish ahead of all of her competitors. In the
Overall scoring, Alex accumulated 2,890.3 points to win the title
of National Overall Champion in her division. In addition to her
National Championships, Alex received the Linda Giddens Award in
recognition of her success in achieving the highest score in the
Girls 3 Division.
Alex has now begun her Collegiate Water Skiing career with her
enrollment in Florida Southern College where she will ski on the
Water Ski Team representing the school on the Collegiate circuit.
Alex has qualified for and will ski in the US Open Water Ski Tournament
at Disneyworld in Orlando during September where cash prizes in
excess of $100,000 will be awarded. She is also training for her
participation in the 2006 Pan American Championship Tournament in
Cuernavaca Morelos, Mexico during September where she will represent
the United States in this international competition.
