Upcoming Winter Meeting Notes and Requests of Council
(posted 12/13/06, re: Winter '07 WaterSkier issue)
DATE CORRECTION:
The initial dates published in the Water Skier for the 2007 Winter
Meeting & Clinics unfortunately were wrong. The 2007 Winter
Meeting & Clinics will take place 1/20-21/07 at the Valley Forge
Suites Hotel in Chesterbrook, PA. All USA Water Ski Members are
welcome and encouraged to attend. Several items of interest are
on the agenda. Among them are the 2007 Regionals at Twin Lakes,
the Regional Participation Task Force recommendations to council,
the Lex Carroll Memorial Scholarship Fund, use of WSTIMS for scoring
and administration of tournaments, and recommendations from our
web master.
ATTENTION ALL COMMITTEE REPRESENTATIVES:
Please prepare a report of committee activity to present either
verbally or in writing to the membership at the Winter Meeting.
If you are unable to attend the meeting, please submit a written
report to me via e-mail by Monday, January 15, 2007. Please e-mail
it to me at drobbins@teleplexinc.com or you can snail mail it to
me at 114 Grove Hill Road, Baden, PA 15005.
ATTENTION ALL STATE FEDERATION PRESIDENTS:
Please prepare a report of state activity in 2006, as well as report
of planned events and activity for 2007. In the event you are unable
to attend the meeting, please send a designated representative to
deliver your state report to council.
ATTENTION ALL COUNCIL REPRESENTATIVES:
Please attend the meeting as there are several pivotal issues which
will be discussed and may ultimately be decided. In the event you
cannot attend, please send an alternate representative from your
state in your place so we will have a quorum to take action and
conduct the business of the region.
I'd like to wish you all a safe and happy holiday season, and as
always, thank you for your contributions to the Eastern Region.

Headquarters Lake Status (posted 5/15/05, July '05
WaterSkier issue)
The lake at USAWS & AWSEF Headquarters has been completed for use.
The John Roach Memorial Jump tournament was held at the site in
April. Initial reports are that the water skis great and no backwash!
A business plan is in the process of being completed to determine
its future use. Thank you to the donors from the Eastern Region
to the project. It is a worthwhile one that benefits our entire
membership and the water ski community as a whole. Funding is still
needed to complete site enhancements necessary for future uses.
Please contact Carole Lowe at (863) 324-2472 for details on making
tax deductible contributions.

Thank You (winter 2004/spring 2005 WaterSkier issues)
For the first time in several years the National Senior Judges
& Scorer’s Clinic was held in the Eastern Region. On behalf
of the Eastern Region, I’d like to thank several folks for
their efforts. Thanks to AWSA President Jim Grew,
and Judges & Scorers Committee Chair Jeff Smith
for all their efforts to bring the clinic to the East in 2005, and
make it so valuable to the attendees. Thanks to Roger Hammel
for securing a convenient, top notch, and affordable Hotel &
Conference Center. A special thanks to Roger & Linda
for their hospitality hosting the reception at their home, and Al
& Peggy Harris for their help with the reception. Thank
you to Regina Jaquess for offering the professional
skier’s perspective throughout the clinic. Perhaps most importantly,
I’d like to thank all those who attended the clinic. Thanks
to all the officials from other regions who ventured to D.C., your
participation was a tremendous added benefit. Thanks particularly
to all the Eastern Region officials who attended,
your attendance and participation are another glaring example of
the tremendous dedication you contribute to our sport.

AWSAEAST.ORG – Under New Management (winter 2004/spring
2005 WaterSkier issues)
Mike Shepard, the Eastern Region’s webmaster, relocated to
Florida early last summer. His career led him there, although for
a water ski family it couldn’t have worked out better. On
behalf of the entire region I’d like to express my sincere
appreciation for his time and effort as webmaster and wish the Shepards
all the best in sunny Florida.
The Eastern Region is very fortunate to have another dedicated
member with the expertise to assume the vital role Mike no longer
could perform. Darlene McCormick, a W4 slalom skier and official
from Vermont, took over for Mike as the webmaster of the Eastern
Region website late last summer. Darlene views the site as a tool
with almost unlimited potential for its use and communication ability.
So members with items they wish to announce, poll questions they
wish to ask, links to local club websites they wish to establish,
photos, and/or results, please submit them to Darlene
for posting on the site. The more the region participates, the better
our site will be. I sincerely appreciate Darlene assuming the role
of web master. The region has already benefited from her creative
improvements to the site.
