2016 EVP Baton Toss

Greetings!

I hope everyone that attended the 2016 Regional Championships at Lake Holly had a blast!  I know I did!

The  new fangled team event brought about some friendly ‘smack’ talk, great competition and brought in skiers that typically wouldn’t have skied in a particular event; or even come to regionals in the first place.  The team event was a success!!!

We had some changing of the guards, with Pat Bryne stepping back into the EVP spot for 2017 and Gary Noll taking Pat’s AWSA Director spot.  Bravo gentlemen.

Check out the following video address (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WblUI2janks) for some general highlights and our Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/AWSA.East/) for pictures galore from the Regional Championships.

The video touches on:  EVP change, 2017 regionals, $$, other.

Even though I’ve stepped down as EVP, I will be helping with some of the coordination for the 2017 regionals until December 31st of this year; so if you are interested in helping out contact me so I can get you on the list.

Shout out to TG Powel for a great Jr Development event!  Netting just over $1000 in fundraising cash!!!  Rock on!!!

Also, I attempted to identify and chat with the skiers that had never come to regionals before!   Congrats!  And I hope you enjoyed yourselves!

Wyatt Haines and Skylar Hathorn take stop No. 3; season standings tightening

With three Northeast Slalom Series stops in the books, the race to qualify for the head-to-head finals is tightening up.

stop3pointsStop No. 3 was held last weekend at the Connecticut State Championships at Old Farms Pond in Avon, Conn.  Wyatt Haines made his first and so far only NESS appearance count, running 3 at 39 off (1105 NOPS points) to nail the top NESS score and 90 points in the process.  Open Men’s skier Dan Warner finished second, while Hutch Haines placed third.

In the Women’s division, Girl’s 2 skier Skylar Hathorn added to her series lead by edging Tonya Maurer.

In the season standings, Bob Radimer leads the Men with 110 points, while Scott Cerosky and Wyatt Haines are tied for second.  After three stops, they are joined by Scott Behner, Justin Campfield, Dan and Hutch in the top 50-percent of the field – the qualification mark for the season-ending, head-to-head tournament, Sept. 3-4, at Pangaea.  Kathy Callan, Darlene McCormick and Tonya are each tied for second behind Skylar in the Women’s division.

Stop No. 4 will be held July 23-24, at John’s Lake in Wantage, N.J. The following weekend is the Eastern Regional Championships, which has been designated as a bonus event for the NESS season.

Update for Russ Cole Mass State Championships

Information in the Eastern Regional Guide for the Russ Cole Mass State Champions on July 16th and 17th is incorrect or a bit sparse.   The tournament schedule matrix is incorrectly showing slalom on Saturday and trick and jump on Sunday.  The correct order is that standard format of jump and trick on Saturday and slalom on Sunday

Just to be clarify the other information in the guide:

The cost for adults is $45 for 1 event and $55 for 2 or 3 events
The cost for juniors is $25 for 1 event and $35 for 2 or 3 events

Start Time: Saturday 8AM Sunday 8AM
Schedule of Events:
Jump 2 round back to back Saturday morning starting at 8:00AM
Trick 2 round back to back Saturday afternoon starting 1:00PM
Slalom 2 round on Sunday starting at 8:00AM Slalom order Juniors: Women: Men: 1 thru 10

NESS stop No. 1 in the books, stop No. 2 this weekend at Dubes

The first stop of the Northeast Slalom Series took place June 11th at Twin Lakes in Monroe, N.Y., with two New York skiers – Bob Radimer and Scott Cerosky – taking the top-two positions in the Men’s division, while Tonya Maurer and Kathy Callan finished 1-2 in the Women’s.

Uneasy spring weather in the Northeast kept turnout a bit low, but things are expected to heat up this weekend in Hooksett, N.H., when Dubes Pond plays hosts the second stop of the year.

EVP Video Address: AWSA, USA Water SKi BOD Mtgs

Hi there!

I just returned from a fun filled weekend at the USA Water Ski Headquarters!  Pat Byrne, Hutch Haines, Jon Thacher, Doug Robbins, Bill Baker and myself attended the AWSA Board Meeting on Saturday.  Saturday night was the USA Water Ski Awards banquet where we honored Bill Baker with a standing ovation as he accepted the USA Water Ski Award of Merit – it was spectacular! Then on Sunday I attended the USA Water Ski Board Meeting and Doug Robbins was at the helm as the Chairman.

The BOD meetings were jam packed with topics, many discussions and many decisions.  I am posting my notes from the AWSA Board of Director Mtg (note that the final source of truth is the formal meeting minutes produced by Delaina Downes & approved by the BOD during the summer meeting – that is my disclaimer!).

Here is the link to my video address with the highlights – it is 8 1/2 min long (sorry – hard to pack in 2 days of info into less than 5 min).  Continue reading

4 weeks until the Winter Meeting – Who’s Ready?

Greetings East Region!

I hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season with this balmy weather (close to 60 today in CT) across the east!   For those in the hills, from what I can see on various Facebook posts, there is snow on the ground and some of you are able to enjoy the white stuff!

We are 4 weeks away from our winter meeting!  I’m looking forward to some energetic discussions that will touch on (a) team events at nationals, (b) update from the AWSA Insurance Taskforce,  (c) accomplishments from 2015, and (d) a look at 2016 goals.

If you have a specific topic that you would like to see discussed, please let me know (multitasking@comcast.net).

Also if you want to put your name in the hat to officiate at Regionals and/or Nationals, please let me know as well.  This includes safety AND announcers!!!!!

Yes we will have clinic(s) on Sunday (assuming we have a minimum head count of 5).  Currently planning a Judge/Score clinic, and there is a request for a drivers clinic – I’ll work through Al Harris to determine if we can arrange an instructor.  Please contact me directly if you are interesting in officials clinics.  We have 32 judges on the downgrade list (3 needed clinics), 12 scores on the downgrade list (all due to missing tournament credits), 2 TCs that require clinics.  I didn’t receive the Driver downgrade list.

Look for details in the coming weeks about the session; in the mean time please RSVP with your attendance for the Saturday meeting to Marie Baker (billandmbaker@comcast.net).

Dates: Jan 9th (meeting) & Jan 10th (clinics)
