Come One, Come ALL!
This meeting is open to all AWSA members. Come find out what’s new and let your voice be heard. We were able to secure our traditional location for the weekend of January 5th and 6th, 2019 at the Embassy Suites Valley Forge Hotel, 888 Chesterbrook Blvd, Wayne, PA 19087, (610) 647-6700. This date is consistent with past years. We’ll be sending out another message with all of the details.
(Eastern Region tent at 2018 Nationals, Maize, KS)
–Nationals 2018-was extraordinary, Mystic lakes was a fantastic host site and the people of Mystic lakes could not have been more welcoming to our AWSA family. This was the largest # of competitors (728) since 2010 and pulls (1340) since 2004. 4 years ago Nationals was in bad shape and we couldn’t even find a host, so glad to see happy LOC’s and happy vendors and great competition again. We have bids, and our #’s are up 32% in 2 years.
–America’s Cup-Simply WOW as well. This was a huge addition to Nationals, we wanted to bring the US Open back for years and I think we have done so in the form of the America’s Cup. A true 3 event pro tournament that is aiding in nationals attendance. We went from our usual 10 open skiers to 64, so it was great to see the best show up for our Nationals. I think that any in attendance will not soon forget the show put on by our amazing trickers skiing at elite level under the lights. It was stunning! We learned a lot from hosting it the first time and we are excited to keep it going. Charlotte is already on board and we already have a sponsor that wants to make overall 2.5 times bigger cash prize. We could not have done this years event without the support of all boat companies so thank them for making this happen.
–2019 Nationals dates are officially August 6-10, 2019. Schedule is being worked out to try and accommodate the America’s Cup considering that elite worlds starts August Continue reading
As we prepare for tomorrows kick-off of the Eastern Regionals, many of us are also looking ahead to our trip to Kansas for Nationals. Here is a site map for Mystic Lakes. Mystic Lakes Site Map We hope to see many of you there.
You’ll notice that there are region tents between lake 1 and lake 2. We’ll have a large cooler, chairs, and snacks at the Eastern Region tent. Just look for the Eastern State Flags and the big East Is Beast, Eastern Region feather flag.
Please join us at the 2018 Eastern Region General Member meeting on Friday 7/27. The meeting and banquet will be held under the tent on the island at Twin Lakes Water Ski Park in Monroe, NY.
Call to order scheduled for 5:00 pm

START COLLECTING THEM NOW!
Now within the My Stats feature of AWSA’s mobile app, when a member achieves a personal best within the last 12 months, a yellow Personal Best banner appears. Clicking on the banner creates an email requesting one of these new Personal Best stickers, which we hope people will collect and display proudly as a symbol of their recent achievements. Up and coming skiers may collect many of them, and who knows, they might become coveted like the those on high school & college football helmets. Skier and officials can earn a handle for a number of achievements such as winning Nationals, being a chief official at a major event, or other significant accomplishments.

You may have heard that there is a new USA-WSWS membership structure on the way. Please be aware of the following key elements.
#1 The base membership will cost $19.95. This is a great access point for anyone interested in supporting the sport of water skiing and enjoying the magazine and member only discounts. See more about that below.
#2 If you are an active member, don’t wait to renew. The new active membership is actually going to be $4.95 more so its not worth the wait, renew now. The new membership is geared towards increasing the non-active base membership for individual and families more than anything. Here is the recent e-blast that went out, it correctly explains the right approach to renewing during this transition period. http://campaign.r20.constantcontact.com/render?m=1101891240757&ca=65cd5b9c-b1bb-45b9-bf76-49e2a42bbc1d
#3 We are not going to see this go live during this summer season, the new projected release date is August/September so what USA Water Ski and Wake Sports has done is incorporated the most important part of it now, which is the new $19.95 supporting membership. This means the entry point of membership has been nearly cut in half.
#4 In the fall we will begin our biggest membership drive in years, reaching out to almost 7,000 ex-members from over the last 5 years.
#5 Airhead has joined USA-WSWS as a new member discount sponsor. This is our first manufacturer to go live as part of our push for better member benefits. USA Water Ski & Wake Sports members will receive 20% off all items with exclusive discount code at checkout. Log in to the Members Only section and click on the Member Discounts link. Airhead is the largest manufacturer of inflatables in the market.
We will close nominations for the US representative for the Pan Am TC position at the end of June. These elections will take place at the AWAS National Summer Board meeting. So far we have 4 candidates running…Bob Corson, Dana Garcia, Nikki Lee, and Larry Downes.
The Green Mountain Water Skiers (GMWS) will host a junior development clinic on July 12th at Wrightsville Reservoir outside Montpelier, Vt.
Pro skiing legend (and Vermont native) Chris Rossi will serve as head coach and all Eastern Region junior skiers are welcome to attend. The cost to participate is TBD, but organizers are looking to keep it as low as possible.
In order to determine if there will be enough participants to hold the clinic, GMWS needs to gauge interest from the region’s junior skiers.
If your junior is interested in participating, please email Justin Campfield at email@example.com on or before May 28th.
Safety is always a priority at any AWSA event. I’m proud of the great care that our safety directors take in preparing a site and looking out for the safety of everyone. There is another important aspect to keeping our junior athletes safe. That is covered in the USA Water Ski and Wake Sports, Safe Sport Program. The program includes two parts, Safe Sport Training and a Background Check. I recommend that all water ski club members take the Safe Sport Training. In addition, some AWSA positions REQUIRE that you take the Safe Sport Training and in some cases undergo a Criminal Background Screening.
The information in the training is relevant and can be completed in one evening or spread out over a couple of sittings. I knocked it out in a few hours over a cup of coffee.
The following link provides all of the details and directions for accessing the Safe Sport Training. 2018 ALL SD SAFE SPORT PROGRAM 2-13-2018
If you interact with Jr. athletes in Teams, as an Instructor or a leader in Junior Development, you are likely required to comply. See the chart here. Safe Sport Compliance Chart v8
